Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil...Bible Verses to Encourage You.

Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil...Bible Verses to Encourage You.

BASIC ORGIN OF THIS PROVERB

The proverb "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" originated in Japan with a 17th-century carving of the "three wise monkeys" on a door at the Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō. The monkeys, each with a unique action (covering their eyes, ears, and mouth), were believed to represent a code of conduct emphasizing moral purity and mindfulness.

HOW CAN APPLY THIS PROVERB INTO MY DAILY LIFE AND VERSES IN THE BIBLE TO ENCOURAGE ME.

SPEAK NO EVIL

Watch your words—life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Speaking no evil means refusing to let your mouth be a weapon for hate, gossip, and lies.

Here are some other verses that talk about speaking and your tongue.

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! - Psalm 141:3 -

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. - 1 Peter 3:10 -

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. - Ephesians 4:29 -

The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. - Proverbs 15:4

What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” - Matthew 15:11 -

Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity. - Proverbs 21:23 -

The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. - Proverbs 15:28 -

Bible calls us to speak truth, bless others, and build up—not tear down. What you say reveals what’s in your heart (Luke 6:45), so let your words reflect the grace and power of God. Don’t echo the darkness. Speak Hope. Speak life, Speak Truth.

HEAR NO EVIL

Guard your ears like a gate to your soul. Don’t entertain gossip, slander, or lies—what you allow in will shape your thoughts and your heart. Scripture calls us to these verses.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but have itching ears  they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. - 2 Timothy 4:3-4

A wicked person listens to deceitful lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue. - Proverbs 17:4 -

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. - Revelation 3:20

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. - Romans 10:17 -

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.  - James 1:19 -

Hearing no evil isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. It’s choosing to protect your peace and keep your spirit sharp. Let your ears be tuned to God's voice, not the enemy’s whispers.

SEE NO EVIL

Keep your eyes clean. What you stare at shapes who you become. The Bible says to set your eyes on what is good, not on worthless or wicked things (Psalm 101:3). God word also says:

Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep there hands from accepting bribes, who stop there ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil. They are the ones who will dwell on the heights whose refuge will be the mountain fortress, their bread supplied, and water will not fail them. - Isaiah 33:15-16

"I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil"  - Psalms 101:3-4 -

Seeing no evil isn’t about being blind—it’s about being wise. Don’t feed your soul with darkness and expect to walk in the light. Fix your focus on Christ, and shut out anything that pulls you off His path. What you let in through your eyes will either build you or break you. Choose light.
